A world-class degree...

Canadians place great emphasis on the importance of learning. In fact, Canadian spending on education is above the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) average and at the top of the G-8 countries in education funding.(1)

To maintain high standards in education quality, institutions are overseen by provincial regulatory boards and a national representative organization – the Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada (AUCC).

A Canadian degree is considered equivalent to an American degree, and is highly regarded in business, academics and government. For instance, The University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, McGill University, University of Alberta, and the University of Waterloo were ranked within the top 100 Global Universities by Newsweek.

Choices, choices, choices...

Canada has over 90 universities and more than 150 colleges ranging from small liberal arts schools, to major research institutions that offer undergraduate, graduate and professional degree programs.

  • Canadian universities are degree granting institutions (BA- PhD) and offer the same level of education as 4-year American colleges.
  • Canadian colleges offer diploma and certificate programs similar to an American junior college. Colleges also include technology institutes and art programs.

Since Canada is a bilingual country, students also have the option of studying in French or English. Canada offers superior English as a Second Language (ESL) and French as a Second Language (FSL), as well as the option to enter into a total French immersion at many of our bilingual universities.

Safe and Affordable education...

Tuition and living expenses for an American student studying at a Canadian school are very affordable. American students are also eligible for U.S. Government and Student Loans at most Canadian schools. The cost of living in Canada is relatively low, but will vary from region to region.

An easy transition...

Not sure what to expect in Canada? Read profiles of students who have gone through the move from the US to Canada. Most students find the transition to be very smooth due to the many similarities between our two neighbouring countries.

To help you adjust to Canada, and to university life, our universities offer hundreds of clubs and associations, and sports teams to join.

Canadian and American people are very similar in many ways, yet Canada does have its own unique culture. While studying, experience Canadian theatre, operas, museums, concerts, art, literature, music, festivals, and more.
